So let me tell you about this place called Ireland

After a 12-hour layover in Atlanta me and my coworkers are finally in Ireland. After waiting 3 hours we finally make our way to the rental car. This is where the journey really starts. To get to Donegal from Dublin it is a 3-hour drive. It took us a little longer because we pulled over to look at the scenery and together ourselves from the anxiety we had driving on the opposite side of the road. When we arrived in Donegal we got a really homey vibe and the people were very nice to us. I got stared at a lot but I’m used to that, later on that night after walking around and talking to people I realized I was the only black person in town.

Day 1- Donegal

Our first stop and Donegal was a restaurant by the name of The House Gastro Pub. The waitress was super nice and the people inside were nice also but the real thing that bothers in there was the food and I will say that the fish and chips there or hands down the best I have ever had in my life. After talking to the waitress for a little while she invited us out that night to a neighborhood event. We agreed to come after we got some rest we proceeded to the Airbnb and took a nap, because after 19 hours of traveling we were exhausted.

Airbnb host recommended Olde Castle Bar & Red Hugh’s Restaurant and it was really good their Irish stew was great and they had a seafood chowder that was absolutely amazing the decor in the restaurant was really cool too. After leaving there we decided to go to the pub that was recommended to us by the waitress from the house restaurant. It was a pub by the name of McCafferty’s. This place was good the food was made by the house restaurant and it was free the locals were very friendly to us and welcoming as we were trying to leave we were stopped by a group and we talked to them for almost 2 hours they bought us free drinks it was a great night. If you go I definitely recommend all three of these places.

Day 2 Donegal/Galway/Cliffs of Mohr

The next morning we went to Blueberry Tea Room for breakfast in had a traditional Irish Breakfast. This is my first time ever having it and I will say it is a lot of food but it is well worth it. I am glad we went there the staff was great and the food was reasonably priced. We ended our day in Donegal by going to O’Donnell Castle. It was full of crazy facts and interesting history about that Family. One of the people that was with us is an O’Donald. If you have the time to make the three-hour Drive North I definitely recommend Donegal it is a fantastic place with a lot to do in a very small town where it seems like everyone knows everyone so no matter where you go you will feel invited.

After leaving the castle we started our four hour drive to the Cliffs of Moher but we would stop at our hotel in Galway which is a 3-hour drive from Donegal. After checking in after checking in we started I drive to the cliffs and I will say if you have anxiety or get car sick very easy do not drive. This is a crazy Drive mini twists and turns up and downs and many cars are very small roads. So I recommend being a passenger in trying to keep your eyes closed as you make your way up. I will say that as crazy as the drive is it is very much worth it. Words cannot describe how amazing the view is from the cliffs.

The cliffs were breathtaking when you get up there and look out over the water it makes you realize just how small you are. It’s almost made me feel like this is how Titans must feel when they look down on Earth in mythology. To think something like that being so huge is right on the coast is absolutely amazing and definitely makes you think there’s something under the water.

Unfortunately we really underestimated the drive from The Cliffs to Galway in bat so after we made are crazy Journey Back Down the twists and turns of the road we didn’t get to go away until really late so we didn’t get a chance to go to as many places that we would like some are review on Galway unfortunately there is none. We went to one place but I can’t remember the name of it.

Day 3-5 Dublin

The 3-hour drive to Dublin kind of took a toll on us. We were all exhausted but it was extremely worth it after we drop the rental car off at the airport we took a shuttle 2 a pub called Tom Kennedy’s Bar. It kind of made us feel like we were in the beginning stages of a James Bond movie. We had to meet the bartender at the pub in order to get the key 2 our Airbnb. The pub was very interesting and the bartenders were pretty cool themselves the food was not bad I had a traditional corned beef sandwich and my friends had a Guinness and beef stew which was very good. It was not a bad place to kill the three hours we had until check-in. And as usual after a long drive like that it was time for a nap.

We spent some time wandering around Dublin being tourist taking pictures and soaking it all in. We went to the temple bar area took pictures there walked around some more saw things that we wanted to go to later on during the day and we ended up at The Old Storehouse Bar and Restaurant. They have a live band performing every night from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and then from 8 p.m. to close. The band we saw the first night was very good and man and woman collaboration we met some interesting people all of them locals and it turned out to be a very fun night it was also my friend’s birthday so Dublin did not disappoint.

Day 4

On day 4 we woke up with just enough time to stop and get lunch before we went to the Jameson Distillery tour. It was a very interesting and informative tour. We took the 20 Euro tour, which included a tour of the factory, a rundown of the history, and a tasting. If you want to do more than that I suggest doing the 60 Euro tour which includes the tasting the tour and being able to draw your own whiskey out of the barrel. It was definitely one of the highlights of Dublin. After that we spent the rest of the day walking around buying souvenirs and taking in the sights. We stopped by Dublin Castle and saw a pretty cool garden. We went to dinner at The Brazen Head. The oldest bar in Ireland it is over 800 years old that alone is absolutely amazing it seems like everything in Ireland is very old and is standing perfectly obviously due to remodels but the fact that they kept their history is fantastic. The food at the Brazen Head was great I had the bangers and mash my friends had the fish and chips. We came to the conclusion that the fish and chips in Donegal was still better then the fish and chips here but they were still very good so the Brazen Head is definitely a place to go. Obviously Guinness and Jameson are the two major drinks in Ireland due to the fact of the distilleries are right around the corner from each other. We did not do the the Guinness Distillery tour but we hear it was very good.

We ended our last night in Dublin back at The Old Storehouse Bar and Restaurant. I will be honest the band that we saw the second night was not nearly as good as the band we saw the first night. It was still interesting though we did meet with some women who are visiting from Switzerland and we talked with them for the rest of the night and it was a pretty cool conversation with them. We were invited to Switzerland to hang with them for a week or so so that might be our next group trip along with Germany for Oktoberfest. All in all our trip to Ireland was absolutely amazing the locals are great the food did not disappoint and as my friend say the alcohol was fantastic it was definitely one of my favorite trips also my first ever group trip which went well so that’s a bonus.

Remember to be yourself be outgoing talk to the locals and don’t be afraid to be adventurous I have yet to find out that it does not pay off. Also thanks to Kelsey and he selfie stick, Nate for driving, and brad for being an O’Donald. It definitely opened up some great convos.
